About the Composer
Tom Taggart grew to young manhood in mid-century on the high plains of Timber Lake, South Dakota. This locale would seem void of most musical exposure, yet his piano teacher received her training at the Sorbonne and much encouraged his creativity. He sang solos in the local church from the age of five onwards, while singing in the church and school choirs. While teaching Spanish and World History in Minnesota, he taught himself to play the pipe organ.
He matriculated at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, in the fall of 1972 in its music department as a candidate for a Bachelor Of Music degree (Class of 1975) with double majors in composition and organ performance. Employed for two decades as a public-school teacher in both the vocal-and-instrumental departments, he also held multiple and continuous positions as a church musician for over four decades. During this time, he honed his compositional craft, playing his pieces in church and hearing his choirs and bands perform his compositions.
His love of Bach, ease with counterpoint and zeal to give God glory ink each measure of his music.
